KEEP YOUR HEART

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23)

You must have heard about a gatekeeper-someone who guards the entrance into or exit from a premises. You also know about a housekeeper-someone paid to look after the management of a household. How about a bookkeeper? He is someone who records the transactions of a business. But have you heard of a heart-keeper? That is a special, solemn task that God has assigned to you as a Christian youth.

As a heart-keeper, you must control what goes in and out of your heart. Like Job, you must keep watch over your eye-gate and also be a housekeeper. You must manage the affairs of your life with carefulness. You need to be a record-keeper too. You must keep an account of your affairs from day-to-day.

By allowing immoral thoughts, Amnon lured Tamar, his half-sister, into incest. How is your heart today? As a youth, the thoughts and actions you engage in could either make or mar your future. So, you need to watch, pray, and trust God, and you will overcome all evil thoughts in Jesus` name.

Challenge: It is your duty to keep your heart.

Prayer: Purer in heart O Christ, let me be.

COURTSHIP AND MARRIAGE

Source: Family Union US
1. Only consider courtship at a time in your life when you are ready to consider marriage. Until that time–foster the virtue of friendship and hold off the romance until you are really ready for it.

2. Only enter into a courtship with a man/woman whom you would consider marrying. A woman might consider “just” dating any guy that she’s attracted to as long as she has no sense of long-term commitment. The problem arises when she’s grown attached to him after a period of time and can’t bring herself to breaking off the relationship, even when it’s not good. She may end up marrying a man that she otherwise would not have. Set the stakes higher–only court with a man/woman you’d consider marrying.

3. Enter a courtship after you have discerned that you are called to marriage with a certain man/woman. Courtship is a relationship with a purpose. If you know that you would not consider marriage with this man/woman, or you are not ready to consider marriage yet, then don’t enter into a courtship. Stay friends or acquaintances for the time being. Courtship is about prayerful discernment, which means you will decide either that God is not calling you to marriage with this man or that He is not. Both outcomes are valid in a courtship!

4. Take time through prayer to discern God’s will. You need to foster prayer in your lives individually and as a couple. You can not know God’s will without prayer and His word.

5. Base your courtship in the family: As much as possible, spend time with each other’s families. This is so important–for if you do end up married, you’ll want to get along. Family is an invaluable resource and such an integral part of who we are.
You will learn much about each other by seeing how each other relates to family members. And your family, in turn, can give you much insight about the man with whom you are courting (and his family, about you!) Family sees things we don’t always see. Love can be blind at times–family (and friends) can really help to correct our vision. If you are far from family, make every effort to get home and spend time with them. And in the meantime, adopt a family (friends from Church, for example) to provide for you all the benefits of a family-based courtship.

14 Safety Tips for Women to Remember

Source:Charles.E. Save the world
www.gooddeedsalliancefoundation.org

Everyday, women and children are exposed to dangers and the law enforcement agents can not be everywhere 24/7 to protect our loved ones-therefore family / community members should be at alert always especially with vulnerable children. Below are some tips for women.

1. Always be aware of your surroundings

This applies whether you are traveling alone or in groups. Dont just focus inwardly on your thoughts if you are alone, or your friends if you are together. Keep one eye out for your environment, looking out for suspicious characters, possible danger, etc.

Also, dont assume that because your area has been "safe" thus far, that it will continue to be so.

2. Travel in groups

"There is safety in numbers" is not just a cliche. Its true. Make a point of traveling together with other sisters, whether its on public transportation, on campus, in cars, etc.

3. Change the route you normally travel by

If you have taken the same bus, train or highway to get to work or school, change your route. Even if it takes you a little longer, your safety is more important. By changing your route, you can avert possible attacks or harassment from those who know your schedule, method and route of travel well. Please note though that you should avoid short cuts that take you through unfamiliar or unsafe areas.

4. Look confident

Walk with a straight posture and your arms swinging by your sides. Avoid slouching or walking like a victim. This makes you an easy target for attackers.

5. When riding via public transportation choose the right seat

If you are travelling via bus or train, do not sit on the window seat as you may be "blocked in" by a potential assailant. Always select the seat next to the aisle so that you can quickly leave if necessary.

If you are taking public transportation alone after peak hours, sit as close to the driver as possible and/or choose the section of the bus/train that is most crowded. Try to get a seat near the exit as well.

6. If you are driving alone

Dont think that if you are in a car, you are safe. Windows should be up and doors locked even when driving to avoid unwanted passengers at intersections. When you are walking to your car, always have your keys ready, so that you can quickly get into your car.

But dont just get in right away. Always check your car before entering, especially the back, for any intruders.

7. Never leave your car door unlocked

Even if it means for one minute to drop something off in the mailbox thats a few feet away. Attackers have been known to lie in wait for such an opportunity.

8. Be careful in parking lots

Always be alert in parking lots, especially when it's dark. Ask someone to escort you to your car. Between cars and inside cars, it's easy for someone to hide and wait until an unalert person comes along.

9. If you are traveling by taxi

Always check the identification of the driver (usually located near the visor) and ensure that it matches the driver. Once inside, don't sit behind the driver as it may be easy for the driver to lock the rear passenger door. Always choose the adjacent seat .

In addition, avoid flagging taxis. Always order taxis so the driver can be traced if something happens.

10. Dont use the walkman

If youre used to listening to your walkman while outside, drop this habit, especially in isolated areas. With your walkman on, you cannot hear the approach of a possible attacker.

11. Note "safe houses" along your route

Mentally note houses at intervals on each route you take that can be used as "safe houses" if you are attacked, such as shops or houses that you know to be occupied by a friend or acquaintance.

12. When you make a call from a phone booth

After dialing the number you wish to call always turn around so that you have your back to the phone and may see who or what is coming your way. You will then be able to tell the person to whom you are speaking that you may be in trouble and you may be able to use the weight of the phone as a weapon. The door of a telephone box could be used to wedge in the limbs of the attacker.

13. Do not open the door of your home without checking

DO NOT open the door to your home without first checking from a window, peephole or by asking and verifying who it is. Instruct children to do the same.

14. Report any suspicious activity around your home

If you see people loitering on the streets near your house, call the police on an emergency number and report it immediately without thinking too much.

It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed -subsequently,  It will slow down digestion.

Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Moreover, Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks:

· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.

what to eat for breakfast

what to eat for breakfast

What to eat for breakfast?

This is a question I have every morning. This morning by the time I ran out the door I had a slice of toast and a cup of coffee. I am pretty certain that was not the healthiest breakfast I could have had. We have been told for age’s breakfast is the most important meal of the day from the time we were children, however as we’ve gotten older the importance often falls prey to stress,  late nights outs, running late for work, and getting the kids out the door. Regardless of the situation what to eat for breakfast is still an important question for people of all ages.
To answer this question, you need to understand what the core components of a healthy meal should always consist of. Every meal should have a certain amount of protein, carbohydrate, and fats.  The protein will help you stay alert during the day, making you feel energized, as well as helping you avoid the crash that often comes with pastries, and coffee. The carbohydrate will provide a level of stored energy that is slowly release hours later, providing stamina as well as helping curb hunger pangs, lastly healthy fats will give you the necessary energy needed to go about your day.
This article focuses on providing some key options that should be part of your breakfasts every morning within the categories of; Protein, Carbohydrate, and Fats.  Feel free to mix and match the combination as you see fit. In my personal life, I have tried variety of fad diets, and meal plans, and they only last so long before it becomes too consuming to maintain. Having the items below stacked in your fridge for the week can be very instrumental and helping you figure out what to eat for breakfast tomorrow morning
what to eat for breakfast 1
Protein
  • Protein Shake/Smoothie: There are a variety of ready to drink shakes known as (RTD) these items come ready to drink, additionally you can buy them by the case from your local grocery store. Shakes are quick and can often act as a full meal replacement. Please be sure you check the nutrition label for the calorie count, and sugar count.Sometimes you can buy  frozen fruits already cut and packaged to make a fruit smoothie (This is option if more feasible if you have a lot of time, as there is a clean-up factor with making anything yourself in the morning.
  • Eggs:  Eggs are a very good source of protein. Eggs have often been linked to increase in cholesterol levels; however you can purchase eggs beaters from the grocery store, a much healthier choice if you are concerned about cholesterol level, and excess fats. Egg beaters are packaged in containers allowing for easy preparation and clean up. If you prefer the real thing you can always boil a couple of eggs the night before and grab and go in the morning.
  • Almonds & Nuts:   Increase your protein and fat intakes by mixing in a bag, nuts, almonds, pecans, and raisins. This can be munched on while you are in the car driving and getting where you need to be. Just be careful as nuts are very high in calorie count.
  • Peanut Butter:  While peanut butter is high in good fats, it provides you with some good amount of protein in a tablespoon. If you must have a waffle and you are running out the door consider spreading some peanut butter on it to satisfy your morning protein and fat needs. Also consider leaving a jar of peanut butter at your desk. Next time you feel hungry at work take eat a tablespoon full, it will help immensely.

What-to-eat-for-breakfast

Carbohydrates:

  • Fruits:    It never fails to go with some fruits for your carb needs in the morning. You can mix them up to add variety to your morning. Fruits to consider include, Grapes, apples, melons, oranges, bananas, and the list goes on. If you are running out the door consider having bananas and apples readily available for you and the kids while in the car, you can also purchase mixed fruits in a small container at the grocery store they will last a couple of days.
  • Veggies: If you are going to make eggs for breakfast, what better way to get your carbohydrate in then mixing in some veggies. Consider adding some tomatoes, spinach, or broccoli to your eggs the next time you consider making in omelet.
  • Dairy:  Plain yogurt and cottage cheese provides a great source of protein, but also have carbohydrates acting as a two for one. Consider eating plain non-fat Greek yogurts. They will provide up to 16 grams of protein with a good amount of carbohydrate. Also consider leaving 2-3 in the office fridge for the week. Whenever you make it to the office without eating breakfast, having one can help you avoid the breakfast sandwich at McDonalds, or Dunkin Donuts.
  • Cereal:  Remove the sugary kid’s cereal out of your cupboard, and focus on whole grains, and granola types. You can mix it with your yogurt, or put some in a container and snack on while walking to the office or while in the car.
  • Butters:   Consider almond, peanut butter, as they are great sources of fats, they can be added to your waffle and whole grain toast.
  • Walnuts:  Walnuts have been associated with protecting against a variety of cancers, but they are also a good source of fats and very portable. Consider putting some in a zip lock and leaving them in the car.
The list above should hopefully provide you some options to consider when figuring out what to eat for breakfast.  Many of us live very fast pace lives, and don’t always have time to sit at the table and eat breakfast, let alone have the time to figure out what to eat for breakfast. Sometimes you may have to mix , match and improvised, examples includes eating your yogurt at home while getting the kids dress, grab an apple for the car, and munch on some walnuts while walking from the garage to your office. By the time you get to your office you would have had a complete breakfast and won’t be starving. The most important thing you can do when figuring out what to eat for breakfast is always avoid skipping the meal. This is a disaster and often leads to binging at the office. As with everything else try your best every day at getting some Protein, Carb, and fats in every meal.
What to eat for breakfast  is often a challenge, but figuring it out will not only make starting your day a little easier, but May also lead to weight loss. It has been shown that individuals that start the day with a healthy breakfast have less of a tendency to eat junk food through the remainder of the day and snack less often between meals. Having a complete breakfast regardless if it is at home, car, or office will provide you sufficient amount of energy to take you through lunch and avoiding the pitfalls of the office vending machine, and picking through the donuts and cookies that someone thought would be a good idea to bring in.

5 Ways to Eat Less Packaged Food

vegetables-healthy-400x400-1
How many foods do you eat each day that come from a box, can, bag, or container of some kind? When I’ve asked clients to track this, they’re often shocked at just how few fresh foods they eat, and paying attention to your packaged versus fresh ratio is important. According to a recent study published in the British Medical Journal, the synthetic chemicals used in food processing and packaging can leach into food and can lead to chronic, low-level ingestion of these substances over a lifetime. Some, such as bisphenol A (BPA) can disrupt hormone production and balance, and others, like formaldehyde, are linked to cancer risk. (Plus, some packaged foods can be high in salt and fat, neither of which help your waistline.)
While it’s not practical to eliminate packaged foods completely, there are ways to cut back so you can reduce your exposure and protect your health. Try these five fresh food strategies.
Reach for more “loose” produce
I’m talking package-free fresh fruits and veggies from the supermarket or farmer’s market. You can avoid plastic by picking up some natural fiber reusable mesh produce bags (about $3 each, and they’re machine washable). Swap processed snacks for your fresh fruit bounty. And if time is an issue for veggies, choose favorites that don’t require much prep. For example, after washing, baby Brussels sprouts or asparagus spears only need a light mist of olive oil and a dusting of cracked black pepper before you pop them in the oven to roast. And string beans or snow peas can be steamed over lemon water in minutes.
Shop the bulk section
You can buy many healthy staples in bulk, like oats, wild rice, quinoa, nuts, beans, lentils, and dried fruit, which can be stored in sealed glass containers at home. This is a terrific option for buying only what you need to avoid waste and reducing the number of products that sit in your cupboards wrapped in packaging. It’s also a great way to avoid preservatives, artificial additives, and extra sodium. If you ever forget how to prep something (like how much water to boil for quinoa), or you need some easy recipes ideas, simply hop online and do a quick search.
Switch to filtered water
Ditch plastic bottles and save a ton of dough by investing in a water filter or filtering pitcher. Then take your H2O on the go in a stainless steel water bottle. One of my clients was reluctant to kick her bottled water habit, but when she realized it was costing her up to $500 a year and she was potentially swallowing hormone-disrupting chemicals, she was on board.
Buy or grow potted herbs
You can’t get much fresher than herbs still rooted in soil. Grow your own or pick up a small plant or two, like basil, mint, rosemary, cilantro, dill, or thyme. Most grocery stores sell them in the produce section, and I almost always find “living herbs” at my local farmer’s market. Aromatic, flavorful, antioxidant-rich herbs are an ideal way to season other fresh foods without using sugar or salt. I love to whip mint into fruit smoothies, sauté or marinate veggies with fresh basil, fold cilantro into mashed avocado, and add dill to dishes like brown rice and pureed cauliflower. A little bit goes a long way, and you can snip off just what you need, so a $2 or $3 plant will last a long time.
Make it yourself
It doesn't have to take a lot time (or skill) to whip up some of the dishes you might normally purchase pre-made like soup, energy bars, hummus, crackers, salad dressing, or even bread. There are dozens of simple healthy recipes online, and DIY dishes can be fun projects to take on with friends or family. Replacing packaged products with fresh fare is also a smart way to simplify your diet and boost your nutrient intake. For example, instead of a buying frozen pizza, use your bulk-bought whole grain flour to make your own crust, and cover it with fresh toppings. Even adding a handful of homemade rather than packaged dishes to your regular dining repertoire can result in a significant health and safety shift.
